After original director Gary Ross unexpectedly bowed out of the sequel to THE HUNGER GAMES, Lionsgate has been actively looking for an immediate replacement. The potential candidates are including Bennett Miller (MONEYBALL), Tomas Alfredson (TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY), Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu (BABEL), Cary Fukunaga (JANE EYRE) and Duncan Jones (SOURCE CODE). Interesting choice, indeed but the studio has instead opted for I AM LEGEND director Francis Lawrence to direct CATCHING FIRE. An official offer is expected to be given out soon.
Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth are all returning for the sequel, but it isn't known when production will begin.
CATCHING FIRE is expected to hit theaters on November 22, 2013.
