AKIRA Remake Will Have Its Original Storyline Tweaked!

So are you (die-hard fans) expecting Jaume Collet-Serra's live-action remake of the popular Japanese manga AKIRA to be as faithful as the source material? Well, in Hollywood, it always a different story altogether. In the AKIRA remake, there are few tweaks from its original storyline. Here goes:

Kaneda is a bar owner in Neo-Manhattan who is stunned when his brother, Tetsuo, is abducted by government agents led by The Colonel.

Desperate to get his brother back, Kaneda agrees to join with Ky Reed and her underground movement who are intent on revealing to the world what truly happened to New York City thirty years ago when it was destroyed. Kaneda believes their theories to be ludicrous but after finding his brother again, is shocked when he displays telekinetic powers.

Ky believes Tetsuo is headed to release a young boy, Akira, who has taken control of Tetsuo’s mind. Kaneda clashes with The Colonel’s troops on his way to stop Tetsuo from releasing Akira but arrives too late. Akira soon emerges from his prison courtesy of Tetsuo as Kaneda races in to save his brother before Akira once again destroys Manhattan island, as he did thirty years ago.

So Kaneda is a bar owner, instead of the leader of a biker gang like the original version? Hmm...

Two Explosive Behind-The-Scene Videos In Dante Lam's THE VIRAL FACTOR!

Dante Lam's highly-anticipated action thriller THE VIRAL FACTOR is fast gaining a lot of buzz prior to next year's release on January 19, 2012. Now Emperor Motion Pictures has released two behind-the-scene videos that contain footage from the on-set location of the Middle East with director Dante Lam guiding his cast and crew on the major set pieces involving airplanes, tanks and special forces in a hostile environment. Check out both of the exciting videos below.

Controversial UK Director Ken Russell Dies At 84

Back in the late 60's right down to early '90s, Ken Russell was one of the most daring directors who didn't afraid of courting controversy among the critics and audiences. Such much-debated controversial movies he had made during his illustrious careers were WOMEN IN LOVE (1969), THE DEVILS (1971), ALTERED STATES (1980), and WHORE (1991).

Christian Bale Has Few Things To Say About His Co-Stars In THE DARK KNIGHT RISES!

In a recent interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer about working with Zhang Yimou in an upcoming war epic, THE FLOWERS OF WAR, Christian Bale has also shared his juicy thoughts about his co-stars -- Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt -- in Christopher Nolan's THE DARK KNIGHT RISES.

On Anne Hathaway, who plays Catwoman:

I had plenty of scenes with Anne. And I was there when we did the screen test for her. The thing that I said to Chris [Nolan] that day was that there were many very accomplished actresses who had read for the role. I’m terrible at auditions, so I’m very impressed when somebody really seems to acquire an ownership of a character without having worked on it or prepared for some amount of time.

I saw that in Anne. When Chris watched the screen test, he agreed that Anne did a wonderful job. In many ways, she has the hardest job. There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously. So, I always saw Anne’s role as being the toughest job of any of us. In my case, I’ve stopped referencing outside sources. I now reference Chris’ own world of Batman as a guide to what I will continue doing.

On Tom Hardy, who plays Bane:

I like working with him a great deal. He goes the whole hog. I know that Bane has been seen in movies before. But, in my eyes, Tom is essentially creating Bane for the first time so there’s great freedom for him to be able to do so.

On Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who plays John Blake:

Joseph is a very intriguing guy. I would see Joseph’s performances in other films while we were filming. He’s somebody who truly seems to love acting. He’s a good, smart guy. He did a very good job in the movie.

Lastly, Bale himself has once again confirmed that THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is definitely the end of his journey as the Bat.

I wrapped a few days ago so that will be the last time I’m taking that cowl [Batman hood] off. I believe that the whole production wrapped yesterday, so it’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era.

The prestigious annual 48th Golden Horse Awards, or better known as Taiwan's version of the Oscars, has finally announced the winners. The big-budget Taiwanese war epic, WARRIORS OF THE RAINBOW: SEEDIQ BALE, which led the way with 11 nominations, has walked home five Golden Horse statuettes: Best Film, Best Supporting Actor (Bokeh Kosang), Best Sound Effect (Tu Duu-Chih, Tang Hsiang-Chu, Wu Shu-Yao), Best Original Film Score (Ricky Ho), and Audience Award For Best Film. But it was Hong Kong who actually reigns supreme in bagging three most important prizes, and the movie was none others than Ann Hui's heartfelt drama A SIMPLE LIFE. It was especially a double joy for Deannie Ip, who had earlier bagged her Venice Film Festival win for Best Actress as well. Here's what Andy Lau had to say upon receiving the Best Actor award.

In the past few years I’ve seen Taiwanese filmmakers struggling during the lowest time of the film industry, and I’ve seen how you revive. Now it’s the lowest time for Hong Kong films. I hope we can also hang in there through the hard time, and be as good as Taiwan’s achievement.

In the meantime, Peter Chan's martial arts drama WU XIA, which was nominated with five awards, managed to take home three Golden Horse statuettes -- all technical awards -- Best Action Choreography (Donnie Yen), Best Visual Effects (Yung Kwok-Yin, Andy Kang), and Best Art Direction (Yee Chung-man, Sun Li).

However, Jiang Wen's well-praised action comedy LET THE BULLETS FLY which was nominated for nine awards, managed only to snag Best Adapted Screenplay (Zhu Sujin, Shu Ping, Jiang Wen, Guo Junli, Wei Xiao, Li Bukong) and Best Cinematography (Zhao Fei).

Last but not least, Taiwan's huge hit and Hong Kong's current highest-grossing movie of the year on the teen drama YOU ARE THE APPLE OF MY EYE which has bagged four nominations, only took home Best New Performer (Ko Chen-Tung).

Here's a complete list of 48th Golden Horse Awards winners below.

This Is How Keanu Reeves Looks Like As A Samurai In 47 RONIN!

Can you imagine Keanu Reeves playing a samurai? Actually it's not really that surprising anyway, considered there is other white actors who plays such role before as well. Take Tom Cruise, for instance in 2003's THE LAST SAMURAI.

Now take a first look below at Keanu Reeves as the samurai named Kai in Carl Erik Rinish's upcoming action thriller 47 RONIN, which is scheduled for a November 22, 2012 release.

In the meantime, here's the synopsis below:

Kai (Keanu Reeves), an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the 47 Ronin. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors. … Inspired by styles as diverse as Miyazaki and Hokusai, Rinsch will bring to life the stunning landscapes and enormous battles that will display the timeless Ronin story to global audiences in a way that’s never been seen before.

A samurai movie in the way that's never been seen before? Sounds intriguing enough, but hopefully it's not all gimmick.

Ben Whishaw Is Cast As Younger Q In SKYFALL!

When you talk about the famous gadget expert Q in previous James Bond movies, it's two older actors Desmond Llewelyn and John Cleese. However, the upcoming 23rd James Bond adventure, SKYFALL, will features a younger version of Q for the very first time. And that latest honor goes to 31-year-old Ben Whishaw (PERFUME: THE STORY OF A MURDERER). In fact, he's even younger than James Bond himself, with Daniel Craig 12 years his senior!

Ben Whishaw is certainly an unexpected but refreshing choice for the role of Q. Both him and Daniel Craig used to act together before in 2004's gangster drama LAYER CAKE.

Abrams already confirmed to helm the sequel, die-hard fans have been longing for the release date. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: BREAKING DAWN PART 1 (2011)

RATING: 2/5

To date, the first three TWILIGHT series has made an astounding $1.8 billion at the worldwide box-office. In the U.S. alone, each installment are consistently growing in term of box-office numbers (2008's TWILIGHT - $192.7 million, 2009's THE TWILIGHT SAGA: NEW MOON - $296.6 million, and 2010's THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE - $300.5 million). So finally, here we are now -- the final installment of the TWILIGHT series, BREAKING DAWN, which has every die-hard fans around the world anticipating the movie like a Second Coming (okay, maybe that's an overstatement). This time, it's kind of fascinating to see that the studio (Summit) has wisely opted critically-acclaimed director Bill Condon, who made two Oscar-winning movies, GODS AND MONSTERS (1998) and DREAMGIRLS (2008), as well as an Oscar-nominated movie, KINSEY (2004). With the fair exception of Catherine Hardwicke-directed TWILIGHT, the previous two installments (NEW MOON and ECLIPSE) which were separately directed by Chris Weitz and David Slade, were tone-deaf and shockingly dull motion picture. Which is why, Condon's involvement in this lucrative franchise at least raised some hopes in term of its overall movie quality. Unfortunately this movie is (yet) another critical disappointment that should have deserved better, given the reputation of an Oscar-caliber director like Bill Condon.

Juicy Story Details From THE DARK KNIGHT RISES Revealed!

It's really all about finishing Batman and Bruce Wayne's story. We left him in a very precarious place. Perhaps surprisingly for some people, our story picks up quite a bit later, eight years after 'The Dark Knight.' So he's an older Bruce Wayne; he's not in a great state. With Bane, we're looking to give Batman a challenge he hasn't had before. With our choice of villain and with our choice of story we're testing Batman both physically as well as mentally.

In the meantime, Tom Hardy reveals about his character as Bane in the movie.

Bane is brutal. He's a big dude who's incredibly clinical, in the fact that he has a result-based and oriented fighting style. It's not about fighting. It's about carnage. The style is heavy-handed, heavy-footed, it's nasty. Anything from small-joint manipulation to crushing skulls, crushing rib cages, stamping on shins and knees and necks and collarbones and snapping heads off and tearing his fists through chests, ripping out spinal columns. He is a terrorist in mentality as well as brutal action.

Last but not least, costume designer Lindy Hemming talked about Bane's mask in the movie.

He was injured early in his story. He's suffering from pain and needs gas to survive. He can't survive the pain without the mask. The pipes from the mask go back along his jawline and feed into the thing at his back, where there are two canisters.

Screenwriter DIABLO CODY Says THE EVIL DEAD Remake Is "Unbelievably Violent"!

Acclaimed screenwriter Diablo Cody (JUNO, JENNIFER'S BODY, TV's United States of Tara) was brought on to spice up the screenplay for Fede Alvarez's THE EVIL DEAD remake. According to her, she called the movie "unbelievably violent" and wants fans to know that she understands the inner workings of the highly-beloved franchise. Here's what she had to say below.

I wouldn't have even gotten involved if Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell hadn't been involved as well, they're producing it, and so of course I was like "Alright I have to do this" because I'm such a fan of the original, and the whole original series in fact. But I was nervous to take the job because I thought "Ugh, I'm gonna get shit for this. People are not gonna like this, because all people know of me is like Juno and they think I'm gonna pollute The Evil Dead with like wacky dialogue and cute stuff and folk music, and it's like "No, look I understand what this is. I'm interested in storytelling here and making it scary and good and true to the original." I feel like people will hopefully see Young Adult and go "Oh, okay that's a horrifying movie maybe she could pull it off (laughs).

Because the director's draft was really scary, I tried to stay away from some of the big horror set pieces. I didn't wanna mess with his vision, because he's the one who ultimately has to shoot it. That being said, there is a moment near the-I mean it's unbelievably violent (laughs). Occasionally I threw in a wound here or there. I didn't write anything extravagant.

Now let's hope Cody's contribution to THE EVIL DEAD remake really worth checking for, once the movie hits theaters in 2012.

Poster And Trailer From RAMPART Sees Woody Harrelson In His Most Bad-Ass Attitude!

Up until now, veteran actor Woody Harrelson remains one of the most underrated actors working in Hollywood. He was once nominated an Oscar as Best Actor in Milos Forman's THE PEOPLE VS. LARRY FLYNT (1996) and again in 2010 for Oren Moverman's THE MESSENGER. Now he could well on his way to add his possible third Oscar nomination as he returns to join forces with Moverman in an upcoming police drama RAMPART. Check out the poster and the intense trailer below, and I must say Harrelson does convinced a lot as "the most corrupt cop you've ever seen on screen".

In the meantime, here's the synopsis for the movie:

Officer Dave Brown (Woody Harrelson) is a Vietnam vet and a Rampart Precinct cop, dedicated to doing "the people's dirty work" and asserting his own code of justice, often blurring the lines between right and wrong to maintain his action-hero state of mind. When he gets caught on tape beating a suspect, he finds himself in a personal and emotional downward spiral as the consequences of his past sins and his refusal to change his ways in light of a department-wide corruption scandal seal his fate. Brown internalizes his fear, anguish and paranoia as his world, complete with two ex-wives who are sisters, two daughters, an aging mentor dispensing bad advice, investigators galore, and a series of seemingly random women, starts to unravel. In the end, what is left is a human being stripped of all his pretense, machismo, chauvinism, arrogance, sexism, homophobia, racism, aggression, misanthropy; but is it enough to redeem him as a man?

George Clooney And Noah Wyle Are Contending To Play Steve Jobs!

Whether the Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin from THE SOCIAL NETWORK is going to pen the proposed biopic on the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, who has passed away at the age of 56, remains to be seen. But now there's a new report suggesting that George Clooney and Noah Wyle (TV's ER and Falling Skies) are contending to play Steve Jobs.

Ironically, Noah Wyle once played the young Steve Jobs role before in 1999's TV movie called PIRATES OF SILICON VALLEY. Both George Clooney and Noah Wyle used to star together on the hit NBC medical drama, ER during the early seasons.

Steven Soderbergh Is No Longer The Man For THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.

After a lengthy process of casting decision between Warner Bros. and director Steven Soderbergh, he has decided to pull out of the director's chair of helming the big screen remake of THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. It has been a project he and CONTAGION writer Scott Z. Burns developing since early 2010.

Apart from the report of casting difficulties, Soderbergh is also facing problem with the studio with the budget given. Apparently the studio gave Soderbergh only $60 million to make this international spy thriller that was planned to be the first of a trilogy. However Soderbergh feels such moderate amount isn't enough to make the kind of movie that's going to set on four continents.

As of now, THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. is officially floating into development hell and no immediate replacement is found yet.

Apparently Disney has been struggling to brick back this classic Jules Verne story of Captain Nemo as he creates his warship Nautilus, off the ground. Albert Pyun's CYBORG Prequel Debuts A Promo Poster!

Veteran of B-grade movie, Albert Pyun has an upcoming prequel to his 1989's Jean-Claude Van Damme's cult hit, CYBORG. Titled as CYBORG: RISE OF THE SLINGERS, the prequel will be sadly without Jean-Claude Van Damme in the mix, but rather replaced by a sexy female lead played by a relatively unknown actress named Terrie Batson. In the meantime, check out the first promo poster below as well as the explanation of the plot by Albert Pyun himself.

The big issue never really addressed by Cyborg was the plague that destroyed the world. So we are delving into the backstory regarding the plague, that it creates a zombie of the infected, that Mary (Terrie Batson) was the first prophet series cyborg and she was the cyborg – “Tama Prophet”- created to spread the plague (Mary being the Typhoid Mary of the 21st Century). In Cyborg, Pearl Prophet (Dayle Haddon) was created to spread the cure so its an interesting juxtposition of purposes I think.

Fender and the other Slingers were mercenary black ops soldiers working for a Halliburton type corporation and volunteered to become cybergenic. They were the Slingers and created to be immune to the plague and to further the corporations interests.

It is also reported that Pyun is currently doing test shots with the cast and crew.

SUPERMAN RETURNS Director Bryan Singer Is Making THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN Movie!

Remember the classic TV series called The Six Million Dollar Man, which stars Lee Majors back in the mid-'70s? By today's standard, it's definitely considered as a terribly dated show. However, word has SUPERMAN RETURNS director Bryan Singer is on board to direct a feature-length version of the TV series! But of course, the movie version won't be titled as THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN... that is definitely sounds goofy, right? Instead it will be called THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN (hey, it's all about inflation).

That's not all. Singer is trying to talk Leonardo DiCaprio into playing the Steve Austin character, played by Lee Majors in the TV series.

In case you forgot, the original TV series centered on Majors' Steve Austin who was an astronaut-turned-cyborg superspy after an accident left him hopelessly damaged. He was then "rebuilt" into the titular six million dollar man, and later becomes a valuable asset to fight off against enemies.

Universal Is Developing WOODY WOODPECKER Movie!

That famous laugh is back! And I'm talking none others than the once-popular animated series, WOODY WOODPECKER! Universal-based Illumination Entertainment is now eyeing possibility to develop a feature-length project on the famous cartoon character.

WOODY WOODPECKER was a classic animated series, which first appeared as a short way back in 1940. It was co-created by cartoonist Walter Lantz and voice, in his initial outings, by Mel Blanc, the future voice of Bugs Bunny. At the beginning, the character was noisy and brash type which became a huge hit during World War II-era America. However, WOODY WOODPECKER went mellowed once the series entered into the '50s with additional love interest and a recurring nemesis Ben Buzzard. A theme song was introduced in 1947 and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Song, the only song from a short movie ever to be nominated in the prestigious category. In the meantime, check out the theme song video below in case you forgot how it sounds like!
