Now that TRON: LEGACY star Garrett Hedlund currently active in talks to star as Kaneda in the long-gestating, live-action version of AKIRA, Warner Bros. has shifting their focus on casting Kaneda's brother, Tetsuo. Among two candidates vying for the role are Ezra Miller (WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN) and Alden Elherenreich (TETRO).
In AKIRA, Tetsuo is a young man who develops telekinetic power, in which the government wants to harvest for their own agendas. The story follows Kaneda, who attempts to rescue his brother from these experiments.
Jaume Collet-Serra is directing the movie from a screenplay by Steve Kloves. Production start is yet to be determined, although the target release date is somewhere around 2012.
